  • Mrs Squelch's Retirement

Fri 17 Dec 2021 Mr. Matthews

Today is a very sad day. Mrs Squelch is retiring today after an incredible 33 years of service at Ashleigh.

Unfortunately, Mrs Squelch has been poorly recently, and not been able to be with us for some time now, but hopefully she can now concentrate on getting better and back to doing all the things she loves.

Although we are sad that Mrs Squelch has been unable to continue the amazing work she does in early years, it is the start of a new chapter in her life. Ordinarily, school would get together to celebrate such a momentous occasion, but for obvious reasons, that will have to be postponed until it is a little safer.

It is impossible to put into words the contribution Mrs Squelch has made over the years to the lives of many hundreds of children during her time here. I am sure the legacy she leaves behind, including our wonderful outdoor provision, will be something which will continue to enrich the lives of all of our children for many years to come.

I am sure you would want to join me in wishing her a very happy retirement.

    Mr. Matthews

  • Father Christmas visit to school

Thu 16 Dec 2021 Mr. Matthews

We were luck enough to be visited today by a very special guest... Father Christmas!

He then had just enough time to draw our big raffle, before heading out on his big red motorbike to get ready for Christmas Eve.

  • Father Christmas draws the big raffle

Thu 16 Dec 2021 Mr. Matthews

Father Christmas drew the big raffle today! If you won a hamper, you should already know by now. Well done to all the winners. Many thanks for all the fantastic contributions for the various hampers, they were amazing.

  • Tonight's performance postponed

Mon 13 Dec 2021 Mr. Matthews

Due to a large number of children absent today, across Reception, Y1 and Y2, we have had no choice but to postpone tonight's performance for Reception children's parents.

We are hoping that this performance can take place tomorrow night instead.

This will depend on there being enough children in school tomorrow for the nativity to be performed.  In the event that we decide that we have no choice but to cancel the performances this week, we will try to video a performance during the school day, and distribute a DVD/memory stick to all parents who had booked tickets. Obviously this is not what we would like to do, but we have to be realistic about what we can do, in the current circumstances. Please keep a close eye on the app for further updates. Could you please let your class teacher know if you are struggling for some reason to get your child here for tomorrow night's planned performance.

    Many thanks for your support.

    Keep safe and well,

    Mr. Matthews

  • Important Info about the Nativity Performances

Fri 10 Dec 2021 Mr. Matthews

    Dear Parents,

Here is a reminder of procedures ahead of our Christmas Nativity performances next week. Please note, that this reflects the move to Plan B nationally announced earlier in the week.
Each person attending must have a ticket and this ticket must be brought to the performance. Please remember that tickets are used to control numbers within the hall as part of our COVID measures as it is important that we know exactly how many people are in the hall, no matter what age!
Face masks must be worn by all within the audience unless there is a medical exemption. This is for the safety of all.
Where possible, please use a lateral flow test prior to attending - there is no need to show a result on your way into school, but we hope that this measure will strengthen our precautions. As always, do not attend if you have any COVID symptoms and book a PCR test immediately.

You might want a coat as there will be increased ventilation in the hall.

Entry and exit is via the blue breakfast club (and Kidsland) doors only. No audience member should enter through any other door.

All pupils are to be collected and dropped off at the following doors.
    • Reception class (Rabbit Class) – Reception class door (their usual door)
    • Reception/Y1 class (Bear’s Class) – The ramp door (their usual door)
    • Y1 class (Bee’s Class) – The ramp off the hall near the kitchen
    • Y2 class (Peacock’s Class) – The door off the junior cloakroom

We will put signs up to help you and will make sure that the flood lights on the playground are turned on.
This does mean, that once you have dropped off your child, if you are attending that particular performance, you will have to walk round to the front of school to use the blue doors. Apologies for this, it just reduces people walking around school and potentially coming into contact with other parents, staff and children.

If pupils are being collected by someone not in the audience, the performances will last approximately 35 minutes if you wish to time your arrival on the school playground. Children should be dropped off at school at 5.30pm and picked up at 6.45pm.

Chairs will be distanced from the performers as much as possible so please do not move them, especially the front row.

At the end of a show, if you are in the audience and are collecting your child, please exit through the blue doors at the back of the hall, and walk round to the playground, and collect from the same doors listed above.

Given the nature of the current situation, performances may be cancelled at short notice, so please continue to check app messages regularly.

Thank you for your continued support,
    Stay safe and well,
    Mr. Matthews
